"After Nixon resigned in 1974, he engaged in a very aggressive war with history,
attempting to wipe out the Watergate stain and memory. Happily, history won,
largely because of Nixon's tapes."
-Bob Woodward
Nixon Resigns
On August 8, 1974, Nixon announced his choice to resign as President of the United States and on the next day Gerald Ford, the former vice president became President.
The Pardon
President Gerald Ford eventually pardoned Nixon and all charges against him for his involvement in Watergate were dropped.
"He assumed power in a period of great division and turmoil,
for a nation that needed healing and for an office that needed
a calm and steady hand, Gerald Ford came along when we needed him most."
- George W. Bush
